Q: CAN I REQUEST A UPASS REFUND?

A: Yes, you can request a refund with proof that you live outside Waterloo Region or proof that no more than 2 of your classes are held on campus.  There are some other conditions you can find on the Upass page link below.

The refund request form is open Jan 5-27 and you will be able to find it under the Eligibility section on this page:  https://wusa.ca/services/student-supports/upass/

Refunds will be credited back to you sometime in early March

Q: WHAT ARE THE REASONS SOMEONE CAN OPT OUT OF THE UPASS?

A: Our agreement with the GRT stipulates the following reasons students can request a refund:

  1. UW students who retain a valid Canadian National Institute for the Blind ("CNIB") registration during a given School Term;

  2. UW students who pay their fees to UW, but are taking a majority of their academic courses at an out-of-region (outside Waterloo Region) University in the same School Term as they are charged for the UPass;

  3. UW students who hold a valid Accessible Parking Permit issued by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, and are registered with UW Parking Services and the Office of Persons with Disabilities at the beginning of a given School Term;

  4. Students who are charged the fee but are enrolled in a term where they are not enrolled full-time in on-campus classes are eligible for a refund.

Q: WHY CAN'T I HAVE UPASS?

A: Unfortunately, without an active co-op or academic term this fall, we cannot grant you access to UPass. The GRT is very strict in terms of us needing a specific reason why we provide a pass for anyone who was not automatically charged on Quest.

Sorry I didn’t have a better answer for you. Your best alternative might be a GRT Easygo card which you can pick up at the Turnkey desk on campus.
