If a user has permissions to the data, they can see and export the data that Power BI uses to create a visualization. Often, data is confidential or limited to specific users. In those cases, the user will not be able to see or export that data.
Step-by-step guide
In order to export data to excel:
- Click on More actions (...) in the interaction menu that appears when the user hovers over the visual:
- Select Export data from the ellipsis menu:
- Power BI exports the data to an Excel file. If the visualization has been filtered, then the export will be filtered as well.
In order to maintain the security related to the data, it is not recommended that data is exported on a frequent basis, nor retained indefinitely.
