Replacing a media item (file, icon, image, local video, or remote video)

In WCMS 3, you can replace the file, image, or video in a media item instead of creating a new media item and deleting the old one. Replacing means the links and embeds of media items on pages will automatically update with the new version. This way you will not have to manually update every reference on your site with the new item.

Note: This will only work for media items that are linked through the node number or the media library, not for files linked through a relative path.

Replace a media item

1. From the administration bar, select Workbench, and then select My Dashboard.

2. Navigate to Media.

3. Select the drop-down arrow beside the media type belonging to the item you are replacing, then select Manage.

4. Locate the item you want to replace by searching for it by the media name. You can also filter by Published status or navigate between media types/search all media using the Type drop-down menu.

5. Select Edit next to the item you want to replace under Operations.

6. For all media types other than remote video, select the Remove button.

8. You can edit the Name of if applicable. Be sure the name matches the new content.

9. Select Save.
