How to add link text

 

  1. From the Administration bar, select My Workbench.

  2. Select Create/Manage Content and select the content that you wish to add link text to (eg. Web Page).

  3. Select only the text which you would like to link.

    1. Note: Do not select any trailing punctuation or additional white space.

      Select Link button from the toolbar.

  4. A Link window will appear. Select the appropriate Link Type from the drop-down:
     

    • URL - if you would like the text to link to an external page outside of your website, set Link Type to URL. Insert the complete link in the dialogue box provided. Click OK.

       

    • Internal Path - if you would like to link the text to an existing page within your website, set Link Type to Internal Path. Begin to type the name of the page (using its page heading), a list of possible pages will populate in a list below, select the desired page.

      • Add extra arguments to link to anchors on different pages.
        For example, link to an anchor on a different page by typing the name of
        the page, followed by the argument #anchor_name. Click OK.

    • Link to anchor in text - if you would like to link to another location on the current page, see How to add and link to anchors.

    • Email - if you would like to link the text to a specific email address, set Link Type to E-mail. Type the email address in the space provided. Click OK.

       

  5. Save.                                            

  6. Publish.

Check links to ensure they are linking correctly.


Linking to internal content without node IDs

When attempting to link to internal content that is not associated with a node ID, such as a default listing page, the content does not display in the auto-populated list. To link to such internal content, use the following steps:

  1. Select the text you would like to link (ex. Events).

  2. Click the Link button from the WYSIWYG toolbar.

  3. Set Link Type to URL.

  4. Under Protocol, select: <other>.

  5. In the URL field, enter the URL path following the site name.
     
    Example:

    To link the Web Resources Events listing page (https://uwaterloo.ca/web-resources/events ), the URL path entered would be: events.

     

  6. Select OK.

  7. Click Save button.
