When importing from Scopus, a list of publications must be available, for this how-to, a search of University of Waterloo was used.


  1. Create a list of publications on the Scopus website.

  2. Select the publications to be exported. This can be all the publications or just a few.

  3. Click on the down arrow next to BibTeX Export and choose BibTeX and All available information.

  4. Click Export and Save file.

  5. On your UWaterloo Scholar site, hover (don't click) your mouse above the Content menu toolbar.

  6. Click Publications from the Import menu.

  7. Click Browse and navigate to where you stored the file from Step #4. Click Open.

  8. Select the File Type to be BibTex (or other desired file type).

  9. Click Import.

  10. Import will start.

  11. Once import has finished, report is displayed with the number of imports completed. Newly imported publications can now be viewed from the Publications menu on the home page.

When importing from PubMed, a list of publications must be available. For this how-to, a search of University of Waterloo was used.


  1. Create a list of publications on the PubMed website.

  2. Select the publications to be exported. This can be all the publications or just selecting a few.

  3. Click on the down arrow, next to the Send to.

  4. Click on File and select XML from Format.

  5. Click on Create File, and save file.

  6. On your UWaterloo Scholar site, hover (don't click) your mouse above the Content menu toolbar.

  7. Click Publications from the Import menu.

  8. Click Browse and navigate to where you stored the file from Step #5. Click Open.

  9. Select the File Type to be PubMed XML (or other desired file type).

  10. Click Import.

  11. Import will start.

  12. Once import has finished, report is displayed with the number of imports completed. Newly import publications can now be viewed from Publications menu on homepage.

When importing from Google Scholar, a list of publications must be available. For this how-to document, a search of University of Waterloo was used.

Importing from Google Scholar without a Google Scholar account

  1. Create a list of publications on Google Scholar.

  2. Click on Import into BibTex.

  3. A page will open with the bibtext data. "Copy" this data, either Ctrl-C (Windows), Cmd-C (Mac) or click on Edit->Select All, then Edit->Copy menu in your browser.

  4. Open a text editor (such as notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac)).  Then "Paste" in the copied data, Ctrl-C (Windows), Cmd-C (Mac) or
    Edit->Paste from text editor menu.

  5. Continue to copy and paste all publications into the text editor.

  6. Save the file as <filename>.bib.

  7. Hover (don't click) your mouse above the Content menu toolbar.

  8. Click Publications from the Import menu.

  9. Click Browse and navigate to where you stored the file from Step #6. Click Open.

  10. Select the File Type to be BibTex (or other desired file type).

  11. Click Import.

  12. Import will start.

  13. Once import has finished, report is displayed with the number of imports completed. Newly import publications can now be viewed from Publications menu on homepage.


Importing from Google Scholar with a Google Scholar account

  1. Log in to Google Scholar.

  2. Select My Citations.

  3. Select the leftmost checkbox on the bar at the top of the list of citations.

  4. Select Export > BibTeX and choose Export all my articles.

  5. Click Export. A browser window should display with the BibTeX file of your citations that you can "Save as..." or copy/paste to a text editor and save.

  6. Follow steps 7 through 13 as noted above.

ORCID publications may be imported to your UWaterloo Scholar site. An ORCID ID must first be created before they can be imported to your site. More information is available at: https://orcid.org/ .


  1. From the Administration toolbar, select Settings menu link.

  2. Under ORCID Integration, enter your ORCID ID. It is in the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

  3. Click Submit.

  4. Once import is complete, a confirmation message will display.

All available ORCID publications will be imported in a batch import. Duplicate publications will be removed during the import.
