Task Description
The current wheels on the rover are simple balloon tires with 3D printed hubs for mounting them onto the drive-train. The wheels are of relatively slow quality and current has no features to help the rover navigate a “soft”, dusty environment like a desert.
Developing custom wheels will offer the following benefits:
Full control over mounting method of wheels
Potential for weight reduction
Better control over performance of drive-train
Other URC teams have done very interesting work in developing their own custom wheels:
Task Breakdown
Research what other URC teams have done to create their custom wheels
Determine the constraints and design goals for our custom wheels
Research potential materials and compare potential advantages & disadvantages
