Camera mount vs static camera setup
Primary camera is currently the ZED2 (https://www.stereolabs.com/assets/datasheets/zed2-camera-datasheet.pdf)
Redundant cameras can be chosen from standard webcams, such as the Logitech C920 (https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/webcams/c920s-pro-hd-webcam.960-001257.html)
Choices are compared to one another from a scale of 1 to 3, with 1 being the best.
For the option of multiple static cameras, they are assumed to be covering the entirety of the field of view of the rover. To ensure complete coverage, 2 cameras per side are assumed for a total of 8.
Parameter to Compare | Camera Mount | Single Static Camera | Multiple Static Cameras | Additional Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Price | 2 | 1 | 3 | ZED2 cameras cost about $500 CAD each. Additional redundant cameras like a Logitech C920 is about $60. |
Weight | 2 | 1 | 3 | |
Bandwidth | 1 | 1 | 3 | Much higher bandwidth if we use multiple cameras. Unsure if the Jetson will take it well? |
Software Complexity | 2 | 1 | 3 | |
Operator User Friendliness | 1 | 3 | 2 | |
Camera controllability | 1 | 3 | 2 | |
Horizontal FOV | 2 | 3 | 1 | Multiple cameras show everything at the same time |
Vertical FOV | 2 | 3 | 1 | Multiple cameras show everything at the same time |
Bandwidth will be determined by the antennas and wireless protocols we choose.
