How to Setup in PHR 7007

Summary

This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to use the TVs and Owls with the built-in PC or an external laptop

Warning for Owls

Please do not move/rotate or unplug the Owls or the TVs

The Owls must be β€œfacing each other” to work, if the eye sticker on each device is facing the other one and they are on their labelled area on the table, they are in the correct position

Please turn off TVs when finished

Computer Setup

Using the PC

  1. Turn on all TVs

    • Ensure all TVs are set to HDMI 1 using the remotes located in the trays below the TVs

  2. Ensure switch on the table is set to PC

    • The blue LED indicates which mode is currently active

  1. Click any button on the keyboard to wake up the PC

  2. Log in using your WatIAm credentials (username@uwaterloo.ca and password)

Note for Extra Connections

If needed, there is an extra USB port that connects to the PC (useful for slide clickers, external drives, etc.), an ethernet port for laptops and extra outlets

The taped off ports cannot be used

Using a Laptop

Laptop Requirements

Laptop will need to have a functional USB-A and USB-C port (connections pictured below in step 3)

If your laptop does not support 2 displays, an HDMI port will also be required

Compatibility Issues

Some laptops do not support 2 displays over one USB-C port

If you experience flickering from the TVs or display issues, you can try plugging one HDMI cable into the USB-C adaptor and one into the HDMI port in your laptop

  1. Turn on all TVs

    • Ensure all TVs are set to HDMI 2 using the remotes located in the trays below the TVs

  2. Ensure switch on the table is set to LT

    • The blue LED indicates which mode is currently active

  1. Locate the following cables and plug them into your laptop

    • Cable A is for video to the TVs

    • Cable B is for Owl cameras, speakers and microphones

  1. Log into laptop

Note for Owls

Ensure that Meeting Owl Pro is selected for video and audio use in your video conferencing app

Display Settings

Windows

All TVs Showing Same Thing

  • Monitor will display image A

  • Front TV and side TVs will display image B

  1. Right click on the home screen to bring up the context menu and click Display settings

  1. Click on 2 and then click on Extend desktop to this display

  1. All TVs should now be showing the same image

Front TV Different From Side TVs

  • Monitor will display image A

  • Front TV will display image B

  • Side TVs will display image C

  1. Right click on the home screen to bring up the context menu and click Display settings

  1. The front TV can now show a different image than the side TVs

Mac

Compatibility Issues

MacBooks with M1 or M2 chipsets do not support multiple displays, this means you can only use the front TV or only use the side TVs but they cannot be used together

All TVs Showing Same Thing

  • Laptop will display image A

  • Front TV and side TVs will display image B

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen then click System Settings

  1. Click on Displays then click the arrows from the Use as dropdown menu

  1. Select the Mirror option (will not appear as SAMSUNG)

  1. TVs should now display the same image
