Admin Functionality

Administrative privileges are granted via a nested collection of course definitions. This allows us to ensure that the "Physics" access level includes non-phys courses that are traditionally managed or taught by the department of physics.

Permission levels currently supported are:

  • Read Access - which grants the user the ability to view any in-progress or published outlines for specified courses

  • Edit Access - grants the ability to create or edit any course outlines for the specified courses.

Permissions stack for nested items, so an individual with permissions at the "Sci" level in the image above will have the same permissions for child items. Conflicting permissions are ANDed together.

At this time, only the system developer can create domains and grant access to them. Contact @Mirko Vucicevich to set this up for your department / Faculty

Admin-Driven Outline Creation

In some cases, especially those where a faculty wishes to pre-populate a term worth of courses, admin-driven outline creation will be desirable.

In this configuration, individuals with Edit Access will be responsible for initializing course outlines before instructors are registered in QUEST, and then manually granting instructors edit access on those outlines.

Alternatively, if the department / faculty has temporary or full-time non-admin hires who will be responsible for creating the first draft of a course outline, granting both this individual, as well as the course instructor, edit access will put courses outlines in a state where they're ready to be edited and subsequently published.
