LinkedIn Learning FAQ's

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF THE ECAMPUS ONTARIO CONTRACT?

eCampus Ontario provided the following communication to institutions on Monday September 14th, 2020.

Dear Members... We are writing today as a follow-up to our communication on August 31 to confirm that the LinkedIn Learning pilot for Ontario will expire on September 21, 2020....We thank the Government of Ontario for the initiative and the opportunities that arose from it. We also thank you, our member institutions, for your support of this project over the past few years. We look forward to our continued collaboration to create new opportunities and experiences in learning and technology.

LinkedIn is taking this communication as an indication that there will not be a renewal with eCampus and the Ontario government. If you would like more details about this decision, please reach out to eCampus directly.

SINCE THERE IS NO GOVERNMENT FUNDED RENEWAL VIA ECAMPUS ONTARIO, WILL WE LOSE THE LINKEDIN LEARNING SERVICE?

Yes, without an independent contract with LinkedIn you will lose access to the service. LinkedIn is providing at 10-day grace period between September 21st to October 1st. On October 1st if your institution has not signed an independent contract with LinkedIn Learning you will no longer be able to gain access to the platform.

WHAT WILL BE THE END USER AND ADMINISTRATOR EXPERIENCE DURING THE 10-DAY GRACE PERIOD?

  • All activated learners and admins will continue to have access to the LinkedIn Learning platform during this time.

  • No new learners can activate accounts during this grace period.

  • A contract will need to be signed and submitted prior to October 1st to avoid platform suspension (all admins and learners are locked out of the product).

  •  All (Activated) admins will see a banner in their admin experience indicating the platform will expire.

WILL LINKEDIN LEARNING COMMUNICATE TO END USERS THE LOSS OF SERVICE?

No, LinkedIn Learning will not communicate the loss of service to end users (only administrators in the platform via the banner mentioned above will be informed of the service disruption)

We encourage institutions to leverage the communications we have templated out for use available to communicate with your end users. https://www.linkedin.com/smart-links/AQG7rf1BUi-8dg/58a21250-3c70-4ff9-aad0-31ef5616d2cc

WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS IF OUR INSTITUTION DOES NOT SIGN AN INDIVIDUAL CONTRACT WITH LINKEDIN LEARNING?

  • Download all your data - Each report needs to be downloaded separately.

  • Ensure you communicate the service disruption to all your end users.

  • Target power users and communicate to them using the insight from the reports.

  • Remove all links and references to LinkedIn Learning.

  • For a more detailed plan please review the resources available in this guide. https://www.linkedin.com/smart-links/AQG7rf1BUi-8dg/58a21250-3c70-4ff9-aad0-31ef5616d2cc

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO EACH PERSON’S LEARNING HISTORY?

The learning history which includes a list of courses completed, course certifications, and tracking your current course viewing will be lost if you do not have your LinkedIn Learning account connected to your LinkedIn Profile.

There is an option to manually download one’s individual learning history. If you would like to download your learning history, go to the “my learning” tab at the top of your account and then click “learning history.” Beside each course there is a “more” button drop down where you can download your certificates or add to your LinkedIn profile.

For those of you that activated using a LinkedIn profile to connect to your learning account, in the future if you are to regain access to LinkedIn Learning, your learning history will remain tied to you and can be transferred to your future account. Your learning history will not be available for viewing until you receive access to a new account.

For those of you that did not activate using a LinkedIn profile, in the future if you are to regain access to LinkedIn Learning, you will be starting new without your learning history.

LinkedIn is doing everything they can to ensure that you will not lose data on your platform if you are moving forward with an individual institutional contract. The expectation is that you will retain access to your current platform under a different contract.

IF OUR INSTITUTION IS PURSUING AN INDIVIDUAL CONTRACT WITH LINKEDIN LEARNING, WILL THE CURRENT INTEGRATION REMAIN FUNCTIONING?

Yes, the expectation is that you will continue to use your current platform without interruption. However, if we are unable to complete the contracting before the 10-day grace period, we cannot provide any guarantee.

HOW CAN I DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE STAFF/FACULTY USAGE AND THE STUDENT USAGE?

If your institution has been leveraging an integration and included custom attributes to make these identifiers, then this should be available in the LinkedIn Learning admin dashboard under the reporting section.

WILL THE DATA BE AVAILABLE IF THERE IS A BREAK IN SERVICE AND WE CHOSE TO CONTRACT WITH LINKEDIN BEYOND THE EXTENSION DATE?

At present we are verifying the length of time your current LinkedIn Learning platform will remain suspended post the 10-day grace period freezing your data in alignment to LinkedIn’s data security policies. Please email Jennifer Catallo jcatallo@linkedin.com for more details.
