Account Settings

The Account Settings tab allows you to customize Waterloo LEARN.

  • Font Settings is where you can select the Font Size as well as view a preview of the settings you have chosen.

  • Dialogue Setting will allow you to determine if secondary windows open in a Dialog box or as Pop-ups.

  • HTML Editor Settings will allow you to determine if the HTML Editor window opens by default in rich text editor view or in source view by checking that option.

  • Reading Content will allow you to determine how content is marked as read while you progress through the course. If you use assistive technology such as a screen reader then you may wish to disable this feature by checking the box.

  • Video Settings will allow you to Optimize video presentation for programmatically-driven assistive technologies so videos can be detected.

  • Locale & LanguageTime Zone, and your Online Status can be set to your personal preferences. Note that Online Status will allow other users in your course to see when you are logged in. If you do not want other users to be able to see when you are online choose the option to Always appear offline.

Discussion Settings

This Discussions tab of Account Settings allows you to set the default Discussion Settings for the system.

  • You can determine discussions display settings, the default view, if your replies will include the original post, the subscription settings, the threading style, character limits and if the list of discussions should be visible.

  • Once you have selected your desired settings, click Save and Close or Save.

Email Settings

The Email tab of Account Settings allows you to personalize your email settings in LEARN.

After the initial email has been sent, all subsequent correspondence as a result of that email will take place through your email client of choice (forwarding setting on your WatIAM account).

  • Email Options allows you to determine if you want to Include original message in email replies, send a copy of each outgoing message to your UWaterloo email, or Save a copy of outgoing messages in the Sent Mail folder.

  • Display Options will allow you to further customize your personal email settings.

  • Once you have selected your desired settings, click Save and Close or Save.

Notifications

The Notifications tab of Account Settings allows you to control how you receive notifications about activity in your courses and how often you receive them.

  • Contact Methods allows you to see the email address your notifications will be sent to and to register a Mobile Number if you prefer to receive text notifications instead of email notifications.

Changing your email address to a non-uWaterloo email account will cause the notification to fail.

  • Summary of Activity lets you determine How often you will receive notifications, NeverDaily, or Weekly.

  • Instant Notifications allows you to select how you will receive instant notifications, via Email or SMS. To receive SMS notifications you will need to register your Mobile Number first.

  • Customize Notifications allows you to determine the scope of notifications you will receive and the courses you want to exclude from notifications.

  • Exclude Some Courses allows you to select courses that you do not want to receive notifications for.

Once you are done updating your notifications click Save.

Note: Safari may not save the changes made to your notifications settings, if this is the behaviour you experience, try modifying your Notifications settings using Firefox or Chrome instead.
