Gnome Online Accounts
Gnome Online Accounts (GOA) is a single sign-on service for GNOME desktop environments that lets you use applications to access online services like email, calendars, chat, and documents.
Users that wish to use GOA to access their University of Waterloo Microsoft 365 (M365) account must submit a request for access. This request can be submitted as a M365 Admin request via the Infrastructure Services and Communications form in Jira.
GOA requires the following permissions to your M365 account, and by requesting this service, you’re providing consent for GOA to have these permissions on behalf of your M365 account. More information about these permissions can be found here: Microsoft Graph permissions reference - Microsoft Graph | Microsoft Learn.
Once permissions have been granted, you’ll receive a client Id and tenant Id, which will be required by GOA to authenticate.
How to authenticate to Gnome Online Accounts using Ubuntu 24.04
Navigate to Settings > Online Accounts > Microsoft 365
Enter the Client Id and Tenant Id provided to you
Select ‘Sign In’ and log into your Microsoft 365 account using your University of Waterloo credentials
If prompted for admin approval, select “return to the application without granting admin consent”
