Windows 11 802.1x Wired Authentication
Please follow the steps below to successfully authenticate on the University wired network.
Step-by-Step
Start the Wired AutoConfig Service
Click the Start button and type services.msc in the search bar.
Right-click Services in the results and choose Run as administrator.
In the Services window, scroll down and find Wired AutoConfig.
Right-click Wired AutoConfig and select Start. Once the service has started, you can close the Services window.
(Optional) To make this service start automatically:
Right-click Wired AutoConfig again, choose Properties.
Set Startup type to Automatic, then click OK.
Configure Network and Sharing Center
Click the Start button, type “settings” in the search box, and open Settings application.
Select Network and Internet settings and select Ethernet
Go to Authentication Settings and click Edit
If you don’t see this tab, double-check that Wired AutoConfig is running
Enable 802.1X Authentication
Check the box next to Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication.
Under Choose a network authentication method, select:
Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP).
In the PEAP settings window:
Under Trusted Root Certification Authorities, select GlobalSign Root CA.
Under Select Authentication Method, choose:
Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2).
Click Configure…
Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password if you want to enter credentials manually.
Sign in with your username@uwaterloo.ca credentials.
