Simply Voting accounts
Simply Voting is the campus web-based online voting system supporting the official online voting needs on campus. For alternatives for other types of voting or surveying, please see Qualtrics Online Surveys, Microsoft Forms, and WCMS Web forms.
How to request an account
Returning Officers (RO) need to request Simply Voting account(s) to create/manage elections via the IST Jira Help portal.
Types of accounts
There are two types of accounts that could be requested by the RO.
Create/edit elections: This account type is for Returning Officers to create/manage elections. They will be set up with an account in Simply Voting that gives them full access to create/manage elections in the usergroup(s) requested.
Results access: This account type gives a user permission to view results for elections in the usergroup(s) requested.
Simply Voting usergroups
Usergroups allow control over which users can access which elections.
A user can be assigned to one or more usergroups for creating/managing elections in that usergroup (or viewing results)
When a Returning Officer creates an election, they will need to assign the election to a usergroup. Users are added to usergroup(s) so that only members of that assigned usergroup will be able to access that election.
We recommend creating usergroups for vote types with the same Returning Officers rather than departments!
Logging into Simply Voting
To create/edit elections:
Users log in to Simply Voting using their UWaterloo credentials (ie. 8-character UWaterloo username and password) and two-factor authentication (2Fa) at https://uwaterloo.simplyvoting.com/manage
To vote:
Voters will navigate to http://uwaterloo.simplyvoting.com and log in with their UWaterloo credentials, (ie. 8-character UWaterloo username and password) and two-factor authentication (2Fa).
Once logged in, the voter will see the current elections that they have access to and can vote in (as well as upcoming votes that they will be able to vote in, and “Voting receipts” for previous votes that they have voted in).
A tamper-proof electronic ballot will appear. When the voter submits a ballot, the results are encrypted and kept anonymous.
How to request the removal of an account
Returning Officers should request the removal of accounts (Create/edit elections and Results access accounts) that should no longer have access to elections/results via the IST Jira Help portal.
