Accessing the Kanopy Streaming Service

Kanopy is a streaming platform that provides a variety of media titles. This platform is available to both students and staff. For instructions on how to access Kanopy, take a look at the guide below.

Sign in to Kanopy using your UWaterloo account

  1. Open the Kanopy website

  2. Click on login to UWaterloo

     

  3. Select Log In to UWaterloo again when prompted

     

  4. A pop-up window will appear asking you to sign in with your 8-character UWaterloo username @uwaterloo.ca (e.g. j25rober@uwaterloo.ca) and password. 

5. After signing in you will be able to search through the Kanopy site for available titles. 

Please note that you will still see a sign in button in the top right corner however, this button can be ignored since you have already signed in.

6. If you see a title you wish to view, hover over the title and select the orange Watch button.

The My List button allows you to create a saved list of videos that you can choose to watch later.

 

Sign in to Kanopy with your personal account

If you would like to access Kanopy using a personal account (i.e Google, Facebook or a personal email), this can be done after logging in with your UWaterloo credentials. To begin this process, you can select Log In or Sign Up follow the instructions below

 

  1. In the top right corner, click on the Log In option

     

  2. After selecting Log In, you will be redirected to the page below and be asked to sign in with your Google or Facebook account, or a personal email.

 

If you select Sign Up, you will be redirected to a page that prompts you to create a Kanopy account. To do so, you will need to fill out the following information: 

a. First Name

b. Last Name

c. Email Address (This does not have to be your UWaterloo email)

d. Password

 

Signing into an account means that you can hover over a media title and select "+My List" to save it to a list of titles you can easily find later. 

Viewing "My Watchlist"

To access titles you have added to your list, you can select your profile in the top right corner of your screen. 

  1. You should be presented with a dropdown menu with more display options including: 

    1. My Dashboard

    2. My Watchlist

    3. Viewing History

    4. My Membership



  2. After selecting "My Watchlist" you will be redirected to a page with all of the titles you have added. You also have the ability to remove titles from your Watchlist after viewing them.
