Recovering a file from a snapshot

How to restore previous versions of files in Windows 10

  1. Open File Explorer.

  2. Navigate to the file or folder whose previous version you would like to restore.

  3. Right-click the folder and select Previous Versions from the context menu.

  4. In the item's properties go to the Previous Versions tab.

  5. In the "File versions" list, select a version you would like to restore.

  6. Click the Open button to check out the contents.

  7. To quickly restore the previous version, click on the Restore button. You will be prompted to overwrite the existing file version if it exists in the same location.

How to recover a backup from a MacOS (NetApp) network drive

  1. From the Mac OS X Finder, hit the Command+K keys simultaneously to bring up the Connect to Server window.

  2. Enter the path to the network drive you want to map:

    1. For a shared R: drive (departmental shared drive), there is a slightly different path. In Science, for example, the path would be: cifs://filed.uwaterloo.ca/science$/~snapshot

    2. For your personal N: drive use this path: cifs://fileu.uwaterloo.ca/users$/~snapshot

Note the N: drive option is only applicable to users who have not migrated to OneDrive. Please contact your IT support rep if you are unsure whether your account has been migrated to OneDrive.

3. Click Connect.

4. Enter your 8-character UWaterloo username (i.e. j25rober) and password.

5. Click OK to mount the network drive.

6. The drive will appear on your desktop and in the Finder window sidebar

This may take several minutes to fully mount depending on network speed
