Wireless panic button battery change procedure

Before changing the panic button batteries, please contact UW Police Services dispatch (ext. 22222) and advise them that you are changing the batteries in your device. Provide location information and call back number.

Ordering replacement batteries 

Self-installation (Recommended process)

Batteries can be purchased from anywhere. The battery type is: CR 2025 3V

Warning: Danger of explosion if batteries are installed incorrectly. Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Keep away from small children. If Batteries are swallowed, promptly see a doctor. Do not try to recharge these batteries.

Installation by IST

Batteries can be ordered through Information Systems & Technology (IST). Please submit a request to https://uwaterloo.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/group/411/create/1656  .

Note: IST will charge 1 hour of staff time per panic button battery change

Replacing panic button batteries

  1. Remove the top cover by inserting a coin into the slot located on the bottom-right corner and twist.


  2. Move switch to the “off” position and remove the small Philips screw at the centre of the board to expose the batteries underneath.


  3. Replace both batteries with CR-2025 lithium batteries. Ensure the batteries match polarity for slot they are being placed into.


  4. Replace electronics board and place screw in original location.

  5. Return switch to the “on” position and replace the unit cover.
