Departmental R: drive
What is it?
Network storage drive hosted by IST in the EC2 data centre that pre-dates the use of SharePoint and Teams for document storage. Mainly used to store administrative documents.
Why use it?
On managed Windows machines it shows up as a drive so it is easy to access. Secure file storage with files backed up every 4 hours. Off-campus access is provided over the UW Virtual Private Network (VPN).
How to get it?
The R drive should map automatically for those who have folders or require access. The R: drive can can be mapped as a network drive on a Windows computer using the path \\filed.uwaterloo.ca\ahs$ or on a Mac computer using the path smb://filed.uwaterloo.ca/ahs$
How to manage it?
Changes to access can be requested by contacting Health Computing who manage access to the shared folders using group memberships. A report is sent out every term to the contact person for each folder to review who has access.
