Overview
Safety release valves are designed to prevent overpressure events (where pressure inside a system exceeds its designated limitations). Safety release valves are designed to release excess pressure by opening up until pressures return to normal operating values, then sealing back up to prevent further release [1]. The location of these valves in a system are very important and should be taken into consideration so that they are installed in locations that minimize damage to surrounding equipment and personnel in emergency situations. Since pressure relief valves and rupture disks are made to immediately release pressure in situations of overpressure, there is a chance that hazardous chemicals or gasses can be released into the working environment that may cause further unintended damages [2].
