Fixing the Skype for Business (S4B) log in issue on Macs

Mac users may encounter issues with Skype for Business (S4B), particularly when logging in or answering calls. If you're experiencing these problems, please try the following steps.

Step-by-step guide 

  1. Navigate to this website: IntranetSSL Root & Intermediate Certificates

  2. Download the following two certificates (by default they will be saved in your Downloads folder)

    1. GlobalSign Non-Public SHA1 Chain

      1. GlobalSign Non-Public SHA1 CA - G3 SHA1 • RSA • 2048

    2. GlobalSign Non-Public SHA256 Chain

  3. Install both certificates: 

    1. In Finder, browse to your Downloads folder, and double click on each one 

    2. An Add certificate window will open. 

    3. Change the Keychain option to login the press Add (there should be a drop-down menu) 

  4. Navigate to the Keychain Access window that opened (it should have popped up along with the Add Certificate window

    1. Select System roots in the left menu 

    2. Search for each certificate under All Items in the top menu. You can type in “SHA1 to locate the first certificate then “SHA256” for the second certificate. They should like this: 

      1. GlobalSign Non-Public SHA1 CA-G3 

      2. GlobalSign Non-Public SHA256 CA-G3 

    3. Double-click on each certificate and open Trust arrow dropdown (this should be at the top of the new pop-up menu under the picture of the certificate) 

    4. Under When using this certificate, change to Always trust. 

  5. Close the window to save the preferences. You may be prompted to enter your computer password.  

  6. Open Skype for Business and log in with your UWaterloo email (e.g. j5donald@uwaterloo.ca) and password.
