How to Set Printer Default to Black and White on MacOS:

  1. When on the page/s you would like to print, press Command + P to open the print dialog OR go to file > print at the option bar on the top left of your screen.

  1. In the Color Mode dropdown menu select Black and White and then select OK (or greyscale depending on your printer).

  2. Go to the Presets dropdown at the top of the print dialogue and click Save Current Settings as Preset

  1. Rename the preset to Normal Print or any name you prefer.

  2. Make sure the Available for option is set to All Printers and the Type is set to Print Job Preset then select OK.

  1. Click on the Presets dropdown again and choose Edit Preset List

  1. Ensure that the option “Reset Presets Menu to Default Settings After Printing” is unchecked. Click OK to save the changes.

  1. PLEASE NOTE: PLEASE NOTE: Now that you have created Black and White default settings, you MUST print with this preset so that these settings save. Once you print with the Black and White preset, it will become the default and remain in place until you choose to change it again. If you do not print after selecting the “normal print” present you just created, it will not save as default, and you will have to manually select it when going to print.
