The migration script
(Arts - OneDrive Migration)

  • The copy script is called ‘Arts - Copy N: Drive to OneDrive’. This script copies all your files (with some system-type files exceptions) from your N: drive to your OneDrive.

  • This can take at least an hour, but could be longer depending on files and your internet

  • You have the option of moving your files manually if you prefer

    • If you copy all your files on your own, from N: to OneDrive, you can skip running the Copy script

  • Preparation required before running the script: close all N: drive files (including manually closing OneNote notebook files)

  • The Migration script is called ‘Arts - OneDrive Migration'

  • This migration script redirects Documents, Desktop, Pictures folders to OneDrive instead of N:

  • This runs very quickly.

  • You will be logged off after this runs

  • Preparation: close all your applications to prepare for being logged off

Can I run the Copy script more than once?

  • Yes, if a newer version of the file is on N:, it will overwrite the file on OneDrive.

Can I copy my files after N: is unmapped?

  • Yes, you can run the copy script even after N: is unmapped.

  • If needed, your ACO primary contact can help you re-map your N: drive temporarily.

When am I migrating to OneDrive?

  • The faculty of Arts, St Paul’s University College will migrate during the Fall 2021 term. Please watch your email for information and instructions.

What do I need to do?

What does the deadline mean?

  • Two weeks after scripts are available to your department there will be a 'deadline'.

  • On this deadline the migration script will be run for you and you may be logged off after it runs. It is recommended you run the scripts before this deadline so that your work is not interrupted.

  • This migration script redirects Documents, Desktop, Pictures folders to OneDrive instead of N:.

Can I work during the migration?

  • Files on the N: drive should all be closed while you run the copy script.

  • You can continue to work with other files/applications (e.g. Email, Web brower, MS Teams) during the copy.

  • When running the second, migration script, it is a good idea to close all application as this step is quick and will log you off after it runs.

I have more than one computer, do I need to run these scripts on both machines?

  • You only need to run the copy script on one computer.

  • The migration script should be run on all IST Managed Windows computers that you use.

I share a computer with another person. What do I need to do?

  • Both people should run both the copy and migration script on the machine (one at a time).

  • Note that the second person to run the migration script, will not be automatically logged off after it is run.

I use OneNote. Do I need to do something special?

  • OneNote notebooks will need to be manually closed before you run the copy script.

  • You will then want to manually re-open the notebooks you use, from OneDrive after you copy/migrate.

I use a generic account, do I need to do anything special?

  • If you have N: drive files and will need to save files on OneDrive, consult your ACO primary contact to ensure you have an A1 or A3 Microsoft 365 license and are set up to use OneDrive.

My home internet is very slow – what options do I have?

I use Groupmail or another application that saves files to the N: drive. Do I need to do something special?

  • Consult your ACO primary contact for assistance in configuring the settings in the application, to point to OneDrive (instead of N:).
