Determine where your content should live 

Stakeholders may move from SharePoint 2016 on-premises sites to SharePoint Online sites, Microsoft Teams, or use other productivity tools, depending on stakeholder needs.

1. Permissions review and clean-up 

2. Content review and clean-up 

3. Review sub-sites 

4. Review other features  

5. Does your site use Reporting Services? 

6. Does your site use Workflows?

  1. Submit a request via https://uwaterloo.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/group/52/create/1310 and include the name of your site.  

    1. Let us know where the content will be moving to or if the site or some content should be deleted.  

  2. Inform your users before starting. 

    1. How much downtime is planned for the migration? 

    2. The reason for the change and the value. See Moving to SharePoint Online

    3. Possible changes to how they use the site (Workflows for example) 

    4. URL changes and bookmarks needing updating.  

Post-migration steps  

Before you swing open the doors and let everyone into your SharePoint, make sure everything is ready for them. 

  1. Ensure everything migrated successfully. 

  2. Review site content, features. 

  3. Review permissions (Nexus groups *may* need to be recreated). 

  4. Recreate Workflows if needed. 

  5. Recreate Reports if needed. 

  6. Site users will need to update their bookmark(s) to the site(s)
