IST provides a fax service for faculty and staff to send and receive faxes without having a dedicated fax phone line.

Sending faxes through email

Send a fax with the central fax service using your University of Waterloo email

  1. 6<fax number>@fax.uwaterloo.ca (where <fax number> is the actual fax number) e.g. 65198884007@fax.uwaterloo.ca

  1. Select the email icon from the home screen

  2. Enter the fax number after "To:"

    1. 6<fax number>@fax.uwaterloo.ca (where <fax number> is the actual fax number) e.g. 65198884007@fax.uwaterloo.ca

      • For long distance faxes you need the “1” digit e.g. 61<fax number>@fax.uwaterloo.ca

      • For international calls you need the “011” prefix e.g. 6011<fax number>@fax.uwaterloo.ca

  3. Select "Enter"

  4. Select "Send"

Use an email that has been set up with a dedicated fax number

Incoming faxes can go directly to a dedicated fax number via an email address. If incoming faxes are to be directed to an email address, you must set up a general email account that would be monitored by one or more people.
