Launch Patient Messaging

You can launch Patient Messaging in Accuro in different ways:

  1. Click the HealthMail icon in the Accuro Notifications Area.

    1. The indicator next to the HealthMail icon shows the number of unread messages.

  1. Search for HealthMail in the Accuro Start Menu.

  1. Have a patient globally selected.

    1. Open the Accuro Start menu.

    2. Search for Medeo Messages for the Current Patient.

HealthMail Window

The HealthMail window is divided into two sections.

  • The left side lists your messages, which can be sorted and filtered.

  • The right side displays the message you’re currently writing, the last selected message, or a blank conversation.

Send a Message

When you send a Patient Message from Accuro, your patient receives an email notification instructing them to log in and view the message in Medeo.

  • If they have never created a Medeo account, they will be prompted to do so. 

  • You can send Patient Messages as open or closed conversations; patients can only reply to open conversation threads.

To Send a New Patient Message

  1. Open HealthMail in Accuro. 

  2. Click the green Add button in the bottom left corner of the HealthMail window.

  1. Complete the required information: Message Type, Office, Recipients, and Subject.

Note: Mandatory HealthMail fields are marked with an asterisk (*).

  1. Use a macro, or compose your message in the area labelled, Write your message here.

  2. Include a file with your message by clicking the Attachment button.

  3. Click Send.

Alternate Methods to Send a Patient Message

Patient messages can also be sent directly from the Home or EMR Section. 

From the Home Section:

  1. Select either the Documents or Labs folder.

  2. Right-click the document or lab and select Send to Patient.

  1. Select the attachment you intend to send to the patient.

  2. Compose your message.

  3. Click Send.

From the EMR Section:

  1. Select either the Encounter Notes or Virtual Chart tab.

  2. Ensure you have the required patient selected.

  3. Right-click the item and select Send to Patient.

  1. Select the attachment you intend to send to the patient.

  2. Compose your message.

  3. Click Send.

Send a Mass Message

Mass Messages can be sent directly from HealthMail.

  1. Open HealthMail and click the green Add button.

  2. Select your office using the drop down list.

  3. Select the Delegate, if required.

  4. Enter the Recipients by searching for their last name and selecting the desired result. Once multiple recipients are added, your message will automatically be changed to a Group Message.

  5. Select either the Individual Message radio button or the Group Message radio button.

    1. When sending an Individual Message, the other recipients and replies will not be seen by the other participants.

    2. When sending a Group Message, all recipients can see the other participant's names and replies.

  6. Enter your Subject and write your message.

  7. Click Send.

Close a Conversation Thread

If you click the Send the message and close this conversation button your patients cannot reply to the message thread.

  • Use this option for one-way communications like reporting lab results or sending requisition forms.

Alternatively, you can close a conversation thread by clicking the Close Conversation Thread button located at the top right of the conversation.

Patient Replies

When a patient replies to a message that has been sent and another response from the office is required:

  1. Open a Patient Message in HealthMail.

  2. Compose your reply in the area labelled, Write your message here.

  3. Click the Send the message and close this conversation button, or the Send button.

To mark any HealthMail message as Unread:

  1. Right-click the message in the left column of the HealthMail window.

  2. Click Mark Selected as Unread.
