This page guides best practices when creating parts for the UWRT parts library. This page will not cover all the specifics of creating parts in Altium. If you are unfamiliar with how to create parts in Altium, please start with this page: Altium Tutorial

Once you have selected a part you would like to add to your design, the first step is to see if the same or a compatible part already exists in the library. If you need a 30.9K resistor, and there is already one in the library, use the one in the library. Do not worry about actual part stock for passives like resistors and capacitors as replacements can be easily generated when ordering parts. For parts like MOSFETs and ICs, which are not easily replaced, if a seemingly compatible part is in the library but is out of stock, go ahead and add the in stock version to the parts library.

The UWRT parts library has two components, the Schematic and Footprint libraries. Part creation usually starts in the Schematic library.
