Selection Process
Metal extrusions are able to handle large weights, and their modular design makes them ideal for prototyping. There are a few factors also can be used to help decide which aluminum extrusion to purchase. These include:
- Select a rail width and height
- If a drilled hole is needed, the width and height for the extrusion will need to be greater than the hole diameter to accommodate it
- If the load is significant, it would be preferable to use a rail with a greater width and height so the weight is distributed more
- Select a length
- This will be dependent on the project requirements so choose accordingly
- Select a type
- For modular projects, the T-slotted profit is great and a series of fasteners and connectors can be used
