What is a Publication reference?

The Publication reference content type contains information similar to a bibliography or citation and appears on the Publications listing page. There are 36 supported publication types, including: Book, Book Chapter, Conference Paper, Journal Article, Patent, Software, Web Article, and more.

  1. From the administration bar, select Workbench, then select My Dashboard.Under Publication reference select Add next to

  1. In the Publication reference box, select the Add button beside Publication reference.

  1. Select the publication type you would like to create from the provided list.

Note: For the purposes of this document, we will be going through how to create a Journal Article reference, as it is one of the most common publication types and many other reference types have similar fields.

Required fields

  1. In the Title field, enter the Reference title of your reference. This is not optional.

  1. Under Publication, enter the Year of Publication and the Journal where the reference is from.

Optional fields

Optional information can be added to Publication references. Navigate to the Edit tab of a Publication reference:

  1. Enter the Author name in the text field.

  2. Select a Category of the Author.

  3. Select the Author Role

To add another Author, select Add another item and follow steps 1-3.

You can add an Abstract for your Publication reference

Add information as needed in the Publication configuration. Adding the Year of Publication and the Journal where the reference is from is not optional.

Aside from the required Year and Journal fields, you can enter further information about the Publication reference.

You can enter the Volume, Start Page, Issue, Number of Pages, Date Published, Type of Article, Masters Thesis, and Reprint Edition in each respective text field.

You can add any applicable Identifiers to your Publication reference.

titleRevision log

The Revision log message is an option to comment on the update and changes to the Publication reference. This message will appear in the entry when viewing the Revisions tab of the Publication reference.

titleURL alias

The Publication reference automatically generates a URL based on the page Title and its place in the site hierarchy. It is best practice to select Generate automatic URL alias for uniformity across your site. To create a custom alias:

  1. Unselect the Generate automatic URL alias box.

  2. Manually enter a new URL alias.

Note: Do not add a trailing backslash (/) to the alias. Replace any spaces with a dash (-). When entering a custom URL make sure it is reflective of the content that it will be displaying.

titleAuthoring information

Authoring information allows you to change the author information for the Web page. Authoring information defaults to the user who created the page and when the page was created originally.

  • Filling out the Authored by field allows you to select a user to be displayed as the page author.

  • The Authored on allows you to manually sets the date and time the page was created.
