What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy are sources of energy that can replenish at a rate that is equal or faster than the rate at which they are consumed. Energy can be derived directly or indirectly from the sun or from heat generated deep within the earth. The difference between renewable and non-renewable resources is that renewable resources do not release CO2 into the atmosphere. Although moving water is considered one of the most important renewable energy sources, the fastest growing sources of electricity in Canada are wind and solar energy. In 2018, 16.3% of Canada’s primary energy supply is renewable; ranking seventh internationally with China at the lead [1].
