What is a Publication reference?
The Publication reference content type contains information similar to a bibliography or citation and appears on the Publications listing page. There are 36 supported publication types, including: Book, Book Chapter, Conference Paper, Journal Article, Patent, Software, Web Article, and more. Citation styles available are:

Create a Publication reference
From the administration bar, select Workbench then My Dashboard.

In the Publication reference box, select the Add button beside Publication reference.

Select the publication type you would like to create from the provided list.
Note: For the purposes of this document, we will be going through how to create a Journal Article reference, as it is one of the most common publication types and many other reference types have similar fields.

Required fields
In the Title field, enter the Reference title using sentence case.

Under Publication, enter the Year of Publication and the Journal where the reference is from.

Select Draft from the Revision state field.

Select Save at the bottom of the page.

Optional fields
Optional information can be added to Publication references. Navigate to the Edit tab of a Publication reference:

You have the option of adding the Authors for your Publication reference.
To add another Author, select Add another item and follow steps 1-3. |

You can add an Abstract for your Publication reference by entering the Abstract information in the provided text box. |

Aside from the required Year and Journal fields, you can enter further information about the Publication reference. You can enter the Volume, Start Page, Issue, Number of Pages, Date Published, Type of Article, Masters Thesis, and Reprint Edition in each respective text field. |

You can add any applicable Identifiers to your Publication reference. Manually enter the ISBN Number, Accession Number, Call Number, Other Numbers and PMID as available in your reference. |

In Alternative titles, you can enter a Short title, Alternate Journal, and Original Publication for yourreference. |

The Revision log message is an option to comment on the update and changes to the Publication reference. This message will appear in the entry when viewing the Revisions tab of the Publication reference. |

The Publication reference automatically generates a URL based on the page Title and its place in the site hierarchy. It is best practice to select Generate automatic URL alias for uniformity across your site. To create a custom alias:
Note: Do not add a trailing backslash (/) to the alias. Replace any spaces with a dash (-). When entering a custom URL make sure it is reflective of the content that it will be displaying. |
