How we do it

To control the car robot, we use a network of boards spread around the car robot that each perform a specific function.  Boards communicate to each other by using a /wiki/spaces/FEEL/pages/6524672668 CAN bus.  Splitting up vehicle robot functions into multiple boards allows us to position boards closer to sensors (reduces noise), debug easier and swap out malfunctioning components (instead of replacing the entire unit)

For an overview on how the electrical system works, see the /wiki/spaces/FEEL/pages/6546424806 page Architecture/PCB Designs page.

Hardware

We have 9 10+ printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are designed in-house.  This involves research, schematic design, PCB layout and assembly.

  • JIRA is what we use for constant project updates. If there is progress that you made on a board like soldering an MCU, you can post that progress on JIRA. The Confluence pages for 2021 is being used as an end-of-term or end-of-project report. It summarizes our design decisions related to that project and how we ended up with the final result
