What are Reactors?

Chemical reactors are enclosed areas in which chemical reactions take place. Chemical reactors can take many forms, but the most basic types of chemical reactors are tanks and pipes or tubes.

Types of Reactors

Batch Reactors

Batch reactors are the simplest form of chemical reactor. Reactants are loaded all at once into the reactor, and the reaction takes place over time. At the end of the reaction, all of the products leave the reactor at once. A good visualization of this process is baking cookies.

Continuous Reactors

Continuous reactors come in many forms, but generally a continuous reactor is a reactor which continuously takes inputs and releases outputs. A good visualization of this is an assembly line.
