Introduction: What is Cast Iron?
Cast Iron isPipe, which were mainly composed from gray cast iron, were crude pipes made from molds. The gray color from gray cast iron came as a result of graphitic microstructures (as a consequence of graphite being present in the mixture). Cast Iron pipes were commonly used up until the turn of the 20th century.

How it's made:
There are three predominant ways that cast-iron is made. Horizontally cast, vertically cast, and centerfugally cast.

Cast Iron Pipes:

Example Applications:
For Cast Iron pipes specifically, they were mainly used as pressure pipes to transport water and sewage waste. The design of Cast Iron hasn't changed much since its high demand in the the 19th and 20th century and its no longer in demand as different solutions have come into place.
