As a graduating student you will be eligible for a UHIP extension through Student Financial Services, however, you may also be eligible for UHIP if you are going to be working for the university. Employee UHIP is administered by Human Resources so please contact hrhelp@uwaterloo.ca for more details. |
If the paperwork for your post-doc assignment is finalized before the end of April and you are eligible for UHIP through HR then you will not need to apply for the UHIP extension through SFS. |
How long can I apply for extension? |
Students who aregraduating effective December 31are eligible for amaximum of 6 months UHIP extension until June 30to attend convocation and travelpurposes. |
Students who aregraduating effective April 30are eligible for amaximum of 4 months UHIP extension to attend convocation in June and travel purposes. |
Students who aregraduating effective August 31are eligible for a maximum of 4 months UHIP extensionto attend convocation in Octoberand travel purposes. |
Exchange students are eligible for a maximum of 2 months UHIP extension for travel purposes. |
I am a graduate student and I expect to degree complete within the first three weeks of the term. What will happen to my UHIP? |
If you are completing your degree requirements some time during the first three weeks of the term, your UHIP coverage will be terminated as of the end of the current term; you will need to apply for your UHIP extension by the deadline for the current term.If you are not able to complete the degree requirements in the first three weeks of the new term, contactStudent Financial Servicesto have the UHIP extension premium removed from your student account. |
